The importance of drinking water

If you have the bad habit of not drinking water or drinking too little, you should know that you are missing out on the multiple benefits of drinking water, since it is an essential nutrient for the proper functioning of certain body functions and improves various physiological processes, such as digestion, absorption, distribution of nutrients, transport and disposal of toxins.

Surely you have already heard countless times that we should drink at least eight glasses of water a day. This suggestion arises from a research in which the calorie intake was taken as a reference to determine the amount of water that should be consumed. The result of the research was that for each of the calories ingested, one milliliter of water should be drunk. Therefore, if a person ingests around 2,000 calories per day, he or she should drink at least 2,000 ml of water, which is equivalent to two liters.

Water makes up 70% of the human body, which is why drinking water daily is so important, to keep our whole organism in order.

In addition, this liquid will help your liver, kidneys, digestive and immune systems to fulfill their functions. Among other contributions, water is also responsible for lubricating your joints, improving the resistance of your ligaments, controlling your body temperature, maintaining the right levels of acidity in your body and slowing down the aging process.

As if that were not enough, this basic element is an excellent collaborator when it comes to weight loss, as it is capable of reducing appetite, controlling hunger and helping the body to metabolize accumulated fat.

Have we convinced you how important it is to drink water every day? If so, the first thing you need to do is to determine how much your body needs. The recommended amount is two liters a day, but this may vary depending on each person. To calculate how much liquid you need to drink, you must divide your weight in kilograms by 30; for example, an individual weighing 80 kilograms should drink 2.6 liters of water per day.
